Travel Guide

Travel BookTrail style to Norrköping

Norrköping is a city in  Östergötland in eastern Sweden  about 160 km southwest of the national capital Stockholm.

The city is situated by the mouth of the river Motala ström, at Bråviken, an inlet of the Baltic Sea. Due to this water being an effective power source, the city is often referred to as the Swedish Manchester

The city has also got medieval history which is apt given the dig for the truth that goes on in the Emelie Schepp novels.

In the present day, the Elite Grand Hotel and the Bishop’s Arms pub are regular features in the book. Most of the locations are real but have been tweaked sometimes to fit the plot.

And one more unusual fact that makes Norrköping stand out – the city is one of two Swedish cities (the other being Gothenburg) that retained its tram system after the 1967 conversion to right-hand drive!
