In this book a truck full of dead Chinese in southern Texas draw together popular characters American pathologist Margaret Campbell and Beijing detective Li Yan. An interesting change since now these two characters are on US soil. The dynamics of this, their relationship and this case make for a unique cultural and social novel.
Their joint task is to discover who Snakehead is, the character behind the trade in illegal Chinese immigrants which led to the tragedy in Texas. This case might be focused in and around Huntsville and various cities/airforce bases in Texas. The variuous locations take the characters from universities to airforce bases and police forces around the state. Most of the action is focused in Huntsville which is the home of Sam Houston.
When they discover the victims were carrying a deadly virus, the case takes them back to China and the search for the source of the problem.
