2000s: Siri lives alone and feels someone is watching her…
Siri lives alone, an hour outside of Stockholm where she practices as a psychotherapist, her nearest neighbour far away. She is terrified of the dark.
Siri tells herself that she has moved on since her husband died in a diving accident. But when she goes to bed at night, she leaves all the lights on, unable to shake the feeling that someone is watching her.
What if she has good reason to be afraid?
One night she wakes to find that the house is pitch black, and the torch by her bedside has vanished. Later the body of one of her young patients is found floating in the water nearby. Thrown headlong into a tense murder investigation, everything Siri believed is called into question.
Can she trust anyone?
“The story moves between the tranquility of the Swedish coast to the beating heart of Stockholm”
“It seems so idyllic. An insidiously calm, dew damp morning. The rays of the sun slowly but relentlessly take possession of the art nouveau buildings’s clean plaster facade, triumphantly embracing it with their indifferent heat and giving it a sheen the night had hidden”
“As if this summer morning heralded a day like any other.”
As Swedish as it gets. A summer without end. As if nothing had happened.”
Be sure to visit the therapy setting – the Söderhallarna as this is the finest market and cafe area in Stockholm!
By the shore, red-leaved sedum grows among the heather and thyme. Small wind-whipped pines border the large rocks before the forest begins, Even though I live less than an hour from Stockholm, my closest neighbour is almost a half mile a way.
