2000s: Remote, claustrophobic, what goes in might not come out
It’s the dead of winter when Homicide Detective Alice Madison is sent to the remote town of Ludlow, Washington, to investigate an unspeakable crime. The doctor of the small town has been found murdered.
The investigation is not going to be easy. The dark mountains which surround the town echo its secrets and hold them tight, keeping them within the community, not letting them go.
Something evil is lurking in the mountains and woods – surrounding the people who live amongst them, hiding in plain sight.
Port Ludlow is the real life town in Washington surrounded by lots of trees..
“The wood pressed into the town from all sides. The bite of and that had been scooped out of the wilderness by the original residents was barely visible from above during the day, and at night – when the only lights were a few scattered street lamps – it was all but gone.”
“..In the hollow of the valley the town of Ludlow lay silent and still”
“….not far from the Waltons – a close community where people had to work hard for every dollar the State didn’t take away in taxes but a good place to bring up a family”
Ludlow is claustrophobic, made even more so by the heavy snow, cold cold weather and cold front coming from the people who live there. The police are so far out of their comfort zone – well there is no comfort here. It’s dark and edgy, a sense of foreboding cling to the rugged mountains and a dark sense of unease comes down and hovers over everything in its path
