2024: Welcome to the Cavengreen Hotel
The peaceful setting of Cavengreen Hotel has been shattered by a shocking murder. The killer could be anyone, but when once-trusted concierge Hector Harrow finds himself accused of the crime, he turns detective in order to clear his name. Could the real perpetrator be a member of the bridal party who were staying at the hotel? Or the hotel manager, perhaps? Or maybe its brash new owners, who were also visiting at the time of the incident?
Yorkshire Dales
The Cavengreen Hotel is fictional but you will never forget your visit here!
The location is in the background although the Yorkshire Dales is mentioned and there’s a distinct Yorkshire feeling and a little dialect too which is nice. Hector is in his 70s and he’s been the concierge for as long as anyone can remember.
The setting here is key – the hotel is the focus of the novel and you get to experience a very nice stay here. There’s a tour of the hotel and the guests as well as an insight into what goes on behind the scenes of a busy hotel in the Yorkshire countryside.
A quirky read!
Narrated via dictaphone to an interviewer trying to get to the truth about a murder. Hector is in his 70s and has worked at the Cavengreen hotel for years. Someone has been found murdered. Only Hector, the police and the murderer saw the body. Hector starts to tell what he knows. But no one knows how the story ends.
Such a fun and unique way of telling a story. I enjoyed the style and pace, the voice of Hector and the way of life in the hotel. I would quite like to have stayed there myself. Minus the murder of course. The ending was a nice twist!
