2000s: A lovely idyllic holiday to Mexico soon ends in murder.
2000s: A lovely idyllic holiday to Mexico soon ends in murder.
A holiday at a Mexican beach resort might sound nice but when your other half is wrongly arrested for murder, it soon becomes clear that all is not well in paradise.
Criminologist and foodie Cait Morgan is shocked when this happens to her and her significant other, Bud Anderson, is accused of the murder of the local florist.
It’s now up to Cait to discover just who from the small Mexican community might have killed the respected florist, and why. She investigates but has to keep her link to Bud secret but she’s not the only one who is hiding something.
As the plane makes the journey from Vancouver to Puerto Vallarta, this is the start of what promises to be the holiday in a lifetime. It’s Cait and Bud’s first real vacation and as they catch a glimpse of the White stucco buildings and the Bay of Banderas below, they dream of the sights such as the lush gardens they are hoping to see. This Hacienda Soleado just seems like it’s the place to be.
“I spotted Bud leaving the bodega holding a promisingly bulky carrier bag. He popped into a flower shop next door. I smiled inwardly as I unpacked my suitcase. A distant bell chimed noon. Idyllic”
But as Bud is arrested and hauled away, Cait is told she’s in great danger. In a strange country. Given some dubious directions to an old agave plantation, she is told to hide out.
The locations are interesting for another reason – it’s here where you can learn about how tequila is made and the different versions.
“His job was to cut the leaves from the agave at exactly the right time so that the sugars in the remaining heart of the agave, the Piña, were at their best for making tequila”
