2000s: A locked room mystery set in a grand old residence in the south of France
Cait Morgan is not what you would call a detective figure. Well, she’s actually a middle aged professor in criminology. Welsh by birth, but now working at a University in Canada.
Cait is now in Nice, in the South of France but this is no holiday – she’s there to present a paper. However she does get invited to a party – a former employer Alistair invites her to his wife’s birthday party so she goes. At the party all is going well until Alastair suddenly grabs his chest and falls down dead.
All of the Guests are told that they can’t leave until the police rule them out. But Cait is the one who decides to help the investigation along with her own brand of enquiry.
Set in the rich and glamourous setting of the South of France, this is murder on the riviera ..
A rich man at a house party has been poisoned. The house where he died is the symbol of mystery itself as during the war, it played a rather grim yet fascinating role as the headquarters of the Gestapo. The suspects are the remaining dinner guests celebrating the evening. But the motive for this murder does have an historical link. Alistair had just given a stunning Celtic Collar to his wife – a glamourous necklace that is said to kill those who wear it if they are not of Celtic blood.
This house is one of a kind – many of the suspects live in a compound which is a series of tunnels and traps. The gardens above are beautiful and stunning to look at – but rather like the necklace itself, look beneath the surface and the reality is not so nice. These tunnels link to the past as well as the necklace’s real provenance.
There’s something very intriguing about an enclosed setting and a series of underground tunnels.
Vancouver, Canada – there is a side story set in Vancouver which shows what life is like for Cait back in her native land. Sure to be expanded on in future novels!
