2000s: A child falls into the river. A stranger jumps in to rescue him. And four lives are changed for ever .
On a perfect summer’s day in Paris, tourists on the river watch in shock as a small boy falls into the Seine and disappears below the surface. As his mother stands frozen, a stranger takes a breath and leaps . . .
Famous for many things but certainly the Bateaux Mounches which float up and down the chic city, along the Seine, with views of the bustling capital on each side.
There’s a riverboat which at the start of the novel is also sailing on these waters, for this one has wooden decks, a shaded roof and open sides with people drinking wine from proper glasses. The group of people at the riverside are waiting to board, jazz dripping gently on the pier at Pont d’Iena.
They are there to follow an historical trail of Paris’s famous sights – the Pont des Invalides, the Tuileries, the Louvre where the paintings of the storming of the Bastille can be found with the Seine running with blood..Follow their trail and the mystery along the Seine and then find another one of your own, in the bookshop famous for its statue as “bookish haven“
