Did you know there might be elves and other fantastical creatures walking the streets of Luxembourg?
Alex and Jackie are sisters from California travelling with their aunt and uncle in Luxembourg. They’re having a whale of a time and are particularly looking forward to seeing the new Dracula movie at the local cinema. They love vampires and know they’re not real but can they be so sure?
Deep below the quaint and quiet city of Luxembourg there are tunnels and creatures living there with more than a secret or two. And when an elf comes into their life, things get stranger still and the girls are soon of on an adventure they will never forget.
Well this is side of Luxembourg you definitely won’t have seen before and to walk the streets and imagine the settings in the books, the elf who pops his head around a corner, the vampires in the shadows…… a playful adventure if ever there was one.
A major setting of the novel for its location and the way it showcases the gothic nature of the plot
This just has to be the most secretive and spookiest place which is ideal for the gothic, fantasy element
Luxembourg comes off really well and there are many insights into the real events of history and culture – part of the novel alludes to Spain and England’s quest for gold and their search for the city of El Dorado. Sir Walter Raleigh and other great explorers also play a part in this true side to the overall tale.
There’s even advice on what to see and where to eat so a travel guide of sorts with a difference! With the various French and German phrases which the girls learn thrown in, there’s a good chance you’ll pick up some language tidbits too.
What is real and what is not? The author himself has this to say –
“Therefore consider the narrative to be a fictional account of real events, except for those chapters which pass for real accounts of fictional events. I hope this distinction helps.”
This is more than a holiday for the girls – it seems they were meant to be there, mean to be drawn into a world of elves and vampires fighting over the age old secret of an el Dorado
