2000s: Murder comes to a nice part of Glasgow
2000s: Murder comes to a nice part of Glasgow
Sarah Erroll meets a violent end at her home in a nice part of Glasgow. Neighbours are shocked as this kind of thing just doesn’t happen in their area. DS Alex Morrow is brought in to investigate but heavily pregnant with twins, she’s feeling the pressure. Something is not quite right about this murder
Meanwhile, across Glasgow, a banker has committed suicide – he was a tyrannical man at work and at home as when his family are told the news, they seem relieved rather than floored by grief.
Could these two cases be connected and if so, how?
The two faces of a city, the two sides of Glasgow – The rich and privileged one of the dead banker and Sarah Erroll and the other, found on the tough, underprivileged Castlemilk estate and in the ‘ever man for himself world of the police! The boys involved in both situations are from a private School so the world of exclusivity is shared between many environs.
Radio 4 is mentioned as being a station Sarah routinely leaves on so the house seems busy even when empty:
“Burglars might find that strange in Glasgow but it was plausible in the exclusive village of Thornton-hall”
Castlemilk is a real area of Scotland and Thorntonhall a real place just outside of the city but there is no suggestion these are actual descriptions! These are fictional settings of course but it’s good to get a sense of where they are in the city with regards to the events.
Castlemilk for example – “Castlemilk was built on a hill that afforded a view of the whole of Glasgow” A city which contains the tall flats of the Gorbals, the bright city centre and the jagged tower of the university”
