There is a major subplot where one girl heads to France with Mike and this becomes the story that the rest of the story comes from. They visit Rouen but mostly see the inside of hotel rooms. The setting here is confusion, a man taking advantage of an infatuated school girl and an escape from her parents and her humdrum life that soon turns out to be anything but.
