The second story in the Harry Houdini Mysteries taking place not too long after “The Dime Museum Murders”.
Houdini is a struggling illusionist and escape artist and so applies alongside his brother to star in a show with the world famous magician Harry Kellar.
Kellar is working on a new illusion – the mystery of the floating lady – whereby he will make a woman float high up into the dome ceiling of the theatre. Houdini helps to create the illusion but on the first night, the woman plummets to her death.
It soon turns out that this was no accident though – but the investigations in to how and why she may have died seem as mystical as the illusion.
This is one heck of a magical and theatrical setting with a unique insight into the world of Houdini, the world of magic and illusion and the theatres of 1890s New York.
If you’ve ever watched a magic trick and wondered how they did that then you will love this secret look at how the greats first came up with such illusions, their dedication and passion and the wish to be the first at becoming the ultimate magician.
When the floating lady illusion is created which results in murder, the mood changes and we become watchers at stage left – trying to work out how on earth that could have happened.
The Egyptian hall in London – a ornament to the conjurers craft and the theatres around the world where Kellar performed are mentioned. we found this You Tube video very interesting about him. –
The author is a magician himself and it more than shows.
