What you need to know before your trail

“You were adopted” These are the three words that Nisha finds written in a letter accompanying her parent’s will. She’s lived in England all her life but this letter puts everything and everyone she’s ever known into question. Just who is she really and what does this address of a convent in India have to do with her?

So, she goes back to India on the search for the truth and for answers to her questions and she finds a side to her that she never knew existed.

Travel Guide

Set in England and India, this is the story of women. Of a girl called Nisha who finds out as an adult that India is the home she’s never known but always loved. India pulls her back to meet the family she never knew were there. Her confusion as to why she was taken to England and cut off from her roots.

Once in India we meet Shilpa who is very traditional and so wants her daughter to follow Indian traditions and perform the duties of a good Indian girl. Devi meanwhile wants to escape her future, which is all mapped out in front of her. In a series of letters and a diary containing everything from recipes to messages, this book reveals to Devi more of her mother’s character and why she does what she does.

Devi is trying to break free whilst Nisha tries to claw back her origins, desperate to know why she was taken away and what her life could have been like.

The Indian setting shines, the food is mouthwateringly displayed and India is a stunningly dressed and aromatic character. From the glittering saris to the sumptuous food, this is an insight into India and family ties as much as it is adoption and women’s lives.
