Angela is a young American woman who flies out to the devastated region of Banda Aceh in 2005 – one year after the devastating Tsunami. She works for the UN and is part of their humanitarian relief where she works as a researcher. She is full of enthusiasm and a great devotion to the work needed to help these people but when she arrives, she is not prepared for what she is faced with. Life Banda Aceh now might be more manageable for some but it’s a strange feeling which hangs over its people now and new discovery for Angela amidst the misery.
The disaster is real and brutal but it becomes a backdrop for what goes on in Angela’s life. She meets someone despite all the madness of the situation, despite being in what is essentially a war zone, she comes to stay for a while in the country and so immerses herself in the life and lifestyle more than a humanitarian workers would be expected to do.
The time of a disaster everyone is aware, the story is on the news and the pictures of the poor and starving, the devastation is everywhere. But what happens when the cameras leave?
The work of the many humanitarian agencies is a complex web of organization, people, more people, money and sometimes even luck. The complexity of these new organizations, of the newly expanded population is sometimes a problem itself.
.Amidst all of this horror and despair, a young aid worker can maybe, just maybe find love.
