Bianca Bridge’s personal and professional lives are in tatters. She has lost her beloved mother and has only a distant relationship with her self-made father. And now, she’s been outed as the mistress of a government minister – ending her journalism career before it had even started.
All but unemployable, she is astonished when tyrannical make-up artist Obadiah Cortland, Trinidad’s legendary ‘God of Good Looks’, hires her as his new assistant.
At first, Bianca can’t stand her fierce new boss – and he lets her know the feeling is mutual. But when her ex threatens both their futures and working together becomes their last resort, she begins to glimpse another Obadiah beneath the façade he’s so carefully cultivated.

The God of Good Looks alternates between Bianca’s diary entries and Obadiah’s first-person narrative to portray modern Trinidad’s rigid class barriers and the fraught impact of beauty commodification in a patriarchal society.
Bianca lives in one of the poorest areas of the country whilst Obadiah is of course used to the finer things in life as a government minister.
Is this the view of beauty in Trinidad?
“You may think that you don’t need to be here. You look okay. You dress okay. You may even look slightly better than average. But if you want to get better tips, get assigned to prime locations, get that wealthy gentleman to notice you, you need to be beautiful. If you weren’t born beautiful, makeup can make you beautiful. And if you were born beautiful . . .” He surveyed the room. “Well . . . that doesn’t apply to anyone here.”
