21C: A brother and sister duo have written a dark and twisty tale based in a school in Copenhagen.
It’s morning and school is due to start, but for two children their morning is shattered when on entering the gym, they find the naked bodies of five men hanging from the gym ceiling.
Who are these men and why were they all killed and displayed in this way? And in a school? Could the men all have shared a dark secret between them?
Detective Konrad Simonsen and his murder squad are soon on the case and their first suspect is rather close to home – the school janitor, who may know more about the killings than he is letting on. And then things come closer to home than ever – Simonsen’s own daughter could be the next target.
A school – a place of innocence and learning is the shocking crime scene at the centre of this Danish drama. A gritty and graphic opening to the book shows the school gym having been turned into a murder scene of the most horrific nature. And children stumble across it.
Danish law enforcement are hot on the trail of what went on in this school and the reason (if there ever could be one) but some of what is revealed about the country’s view on porn and pedophilia is hard to understand.
The workings of the Danish law authorities however provides a cold, chilling and interesting view of one society and the moral struggles of some of the police officers working on the case are evident.
Not a Denmark you would want to visit for real but the insight into a Danish investigation and an investigation which starts with such a strong and sickening scene will be very interesting to some.
