What you need to know before your trail

Alma Fielding, an ordinary young woman, begins to experience supernatural events in her suburban home.

Nandor Fodor – a Jewish-Hungarian refugee and chief ghost hunter for the International Institute for Psychical research – begins to investigate. In doing so he discovers a different and darker type of haunting: trauma, alienation, loss – and the foreshadowing of a nation’s worst fears. As the spectre of Fascism lengthens over Europe, and as Fodor’s obsession with the case deepens, Alma becomes ever more disturbed.

Travel Guide

London’s International Institute for Psychical Research

This is inspired by a very real story which took place in London in 1938.

Nandor Fodor was a Jewish-Hungarian refugee and chief ghost hunter for the International Institute for Psychical Research in London.

In 1938, Fodor investigated the Thornton Heath poltergeist case that involved a woman named Mrs. Forbes in real life. He asserted that the psychosis was an episodic mental disturbance and that she was schizophrenic due to the abuse she had suffered as a child. Fodor was sceptical  of the case and was criticised by spiritualists and he was dismissed from the International Institute for Psychical Research.
