Why a Booktrail?
1700s onwards: What happens when you make a pack with the devil?
1700s onwards: What happens when you make a pack with the devil?
When Addie La Rue makes a pact with the devil, she trades her soul for immortality. But there’s always a price – the devil takes away her place in the world, cursing her to be forgotten by everyone.
Addie flees her tiny home town in 18th-Century France, beginning a journey that takes her across the world, learning to live a life where no one remembers her and everything she owns is lost and broken. Existing only as a muse for artists throughout history, she learns to fall in love anew every single day.
Her only companion on this journey is her dark devil with hypnotic green eyes, who visits her each year on the anniversary of their deal. Alone in the world, Addie has no choice but to confront him, to understand him, maybe to beat him.
Until one day, in a second hand bookshop in Manhattan, Addie meets someone who remembers her. Suddenly thrust back into a real, normal life, Addie realises she can’t escape her fate forever.
This is perhaps the longest journey and indeed booktrail in bookish history.
FRANCE
Villon sur Sarthe – Fictional but somewhere along the Sarthe river not far from Le Mans
” It is a catholic place, Villon. Certainly the part that shows. There is a church in the centre of town, a solemn stone thing that everyone goes to save their souls.”
Estele, who grew like a tree at the heart of the village by the river, and who has certainly never been young, who sprang up from the ground itself with gnarled hands and woody skin and roots deep enough to tap into her own hidden well.”
USA – NEW YORK CITY
The wonderful bookshop in the novel is located here in Flatbush Avenue. There really is a bookshop here and so you HAVE to go. Imagine buying this very book from this very store!
There’s always something very exciting about finding a new bookstore but when it’s linked to a novel and immersed in that novel….ooh all the feels!
Prospect Heights is another part of the city nicely mentioned.
There are numerous locations and settings here but the real journey is via that of the characters and of course Addie LaRue herself.
