1780s: Eleven year old Isabelle is a lacemaker in the town of Versailles
Eleven year old Isabelle is a lacemaker in the town of Versailles. She is delivering the lace to the palace one day when she is almost trampled in the crowd.
A woman comes to save her and who should it be but Marie Antoinette.
Shocked at her saviour’s identity, she is even more shocked to be offered the position of the companion to the Queen’s Daughter.
She’s moved from the poor side of the city to the rich. But hers is a position of danger as she can see that the rumbles of revolution are being heard. What side is she really on now?
This story was actually spired by an actual friendship between the French princess and a commoner who did became her companion.
The time of the French Revolution was a dangerous time to be in France, let alone a woman in France. But this book gives a good insight into that time and in the walls of the stunning palace of Versailles.
