1970s: Is it ever right to play God?
George Orr is sent to psychiatrist Dr. Haber for his drug problem. Orr explains that he’s only been taking drugs as he has been having some very disturbing dreams which have the power to alter reality. When he awakes from such a dream, George remembers both worlds the dream and the reality. He tries to explain this to the doctor but he doesn’t seem to believe him.
But then the doctor gets a chance to see this dream sequence for real and how George has a remarkable power of the mind. Things take a dark turn when the doctor tries to change and alter this state of mind for reasons of his own…just how can one man play God and change the world? What power he would have!
Careful what you wish for or dream about in Portland when reading this book! This is a science fiction world and nothing is as it seems. The doctor tells George to dream of Peace on Earth but this leads to a dream about aliens who come down to attack all humans and even unleash a war in space instead of those on earth. The end of racism means that everyone is suddenly the same colour and all those mixed race die
The tourism site to Portland states that “When’s the best time to visit Portland? Right now. Tomorrow. Ten days from now. Because every second of every day, something is happening here that isn’t happening anywhere else.” This could well be the blurb for this novel.
