What you need to know before your trail

In the beautiful village of Vernazza, the Mazzone family have transformed an old convent overlooking the glamorous Italian Riviera into the elegant Lemon Tree Hotel. For Chiara, her daughter Elene and her granddaughter Isabella, the running of their hotel is the driving force in their lives.

One day, two unexpected guests check in. The first, Dante, is a face from Chiara’s past, but what exactly happened between them all those years ago, Elene wonders. Meanwhile, Isabella is preoccupied with the second guest, a mysterious young man who seems to know a lot about the history of the old convent and the people who live there. Isabella is determined to find out his true intentions and discover the secret past of the Lemon Tree Hotel.

Travel Guide

Travel BookTrail style to Vernazza to The Lemon Tree Hotel

Vernazza is perhaps the most beautiful of all the villages in the Cinque Terre region. The village suffered a tragedy in 2011 and this forms the basis of this story.

The author thanks the village of Vernazza in her end notes and explains how she has tried her best to stay faitful to the spirit of the village. Sadly The Lemon Tree Hotel is fictional but she would be the first one there!

Rosanna met the artist Antonio Greco in the village who shared his personal story of the events of October 25, 2011. He made a plaque marking this time which pays homage to all those who supported the people and the village afterwards.
