Why a Booktrail?
2000s: a book about book shops, books, readers, more books, oh and a book bus!
2000s: a book about book shops, books, readers, more books, oh and a book bus!
Nina is not happy and quite rightly so. The Birmingham library where she worked is being downsized and so when she’s tucked away in a back room office, she knows she has to get out. She misses talking to people, recommending reads to them, chatting about what they liked and didn’t like.
She feels sad and drained. wondering if she’ll ever get back to doing what she loves.
Then something catches her eye, there’s the chance to take over a bookshop bus in Scotland – no one else seems keen. But she ‘ll be working with books, meeting people…so she takes it on.
It’s going to be a bit of a bumpy ride that’s for sure.
The author opens up the story with a lovely heartfelt message:
‘Because this book is about reading and books and how these things can change your life always’.
The book and a setting for bookworms everywhere. Who else would go to the wilds of wooly in Scotland to take on a bookshop bus that travels all around the highlands taking literary adventures to the most remote communities?
Just imagine, the Scottish air, the fresh wild moors, the remote communities, the cute cottages, the log fires to read beside…..Nina is an outsider to these parts and the communities are not really used to someone like her particularly those who are crazy enough to drive a bus full of books. When she gets the bus stuck on a railway track, well now, she’s not exactly making a good impression!
The idea of a bookshop bus is not that far removed from reality as they do exist! But this one has real charm and is part of Nina’s journey as she finds her own happiness again – with books. Aaah . This story also touches upon the changing world of the librarian and is poignant as you realise that a lot of the books on the bus are from those which have closed down all together.
There’s plenty of tips as to how to read, when to read, what kind of book to read in which situation and all very very true. a book bible with a bus bookshop – just too good to be true!
And wait till you see the book tree!

Love this book! OMG this book is a book bible for book lovers everywhere and it makes you want to go straight to Scotland and do the same thing yourself. It is all about books, a woman who loves books, loses her job at the library and so goes out there and gets a job driving books around Scotland. With the stunning scenery and funny story (wait till you meet a certain farmer) this is a feel good book – perfect to read in a nice Scottish cottage beside a roaring fire! I also laughed at Jenny’s reading tips at the start of the book – very very true!
