Sam Collins, a former Boston City police detective, is happily retired in Chiang Mai, Thailand when his world is turned upside down. There’s a lot of ground covered in this book and the action takes place which showcases some lovely parts of the country. Not always ina good light of course, this being a murder mystery, but still.
Mae Hong Son is a remote, mountainous province in northern Thailand, bordering Myanmar (Burma). There’s not many people who live here given the land and the cliate but the population who does live here are fa mix of races and religions. Hill tribes such as the Shan and Hmong live here. The capital is also called Mae Hong Son.

Sam is asked whether he likes living in Chiang Mai.
“You know I really do. Actually, I grew up near the sea, so I wasn’t sure how I would adapt to the mountains, but I’ve found that Chiang Mai has really become my home.”

Pattaya is known to most people for its plentiful and flamboyant nightlife consisting of go-go bars , beer bars and world class discos. And of al of this is true, There is no seaside resort in the world that is quite like Pattaya. However Sin City is so much more than than. Pattaya boasts some of the finest gold course in Southeast Asia as well as five star resort hotels to rival those in more respectable locales such as the Maldives.
Originally Pattaya was a simple fishing village which went by the name of Thap Phraya meaning ‘Army of the Phraya (Army of the King)
