Hamburg is a city under siege in every sense of the word.
Food is scarce; refugees and the homeless crowd into shanty towns and sheds. There is a killer on the loose, and all attempts to find them have failed. Frank Stave is a career policeman with a tragedy in his past that is driving his determination to find the killer. With the help of his colleague Maschke from the vice squad, and Lt MacDonald from the British military, Stave has to find out why and who in the wake of a wave of atrocity, the grim Nazi past and the bleak attempts by his German countrymen to recreate a country from the apocalypse someone is still dedicated to murder.
Life in Hamburg, with the Occupying Forces evokes a dark, bleak and very dangerous city. Those who survived the war may have escaped death but their lives will never be the same again for their city and their lives have been destroyed beyond recognition. A city on the edge, a city about to collapse completely at any time. The city now has to be rebuilt but this is going to take time and people are war weary and tired, many of them injured.
The story is based on real events – The Rubble Murders – which happened during the winter of 1946/47. The showreel below shows the nature of the bombing raids and the horror of this time.
