Larvik is a town in Vestfold og Telemark county. There are about 46,364 inhabitants. The coastline measures some 110 km.
Larvik is known as the hometown of Thor Heyerdahl – a Norwegian adventurer and ethnographer with a background in zoology, botany and geography. He is known for his Kon-Tiki expedition in 1947, when he sailed 5,000 miles across the Pacific Ocean in a home made raft from South America to the Tuamotu Islands.
It is also home of Norway’s only natural mineral water spring, Farriskilden.
