It was meant to be the perfect honeymoon.
A five-star resort in paradise.
White sands, a private villa and world-class cuisine.
A chance for newlyweds Asha and Ollie Graveney to recover from a recent tragedy, and enjoy the holiday of their dreams.
Except someone has other plans…
And paradise has turned into a nightmare.
Most of the book takes place on the island. There are scenes in Ho Chi Minh city where one of the characters has ended up in hospital and that’s how the book starts. There are later ‘scenes’ in Hampshire and London but these are only as backstory and the main action and plot of the novel centres around what happens on that island.
The map concentrates on this island of hopes and dreams. In the story, its’s the setting for the Mango Tree Resort where the happy couple are having their honeymoon. It sounds idyllic:
“The sea is a sheet of silver, dotted by a few black masses that must be tiny islands. It meets the sky at a horizon so broad and clear she is sure she can make out the curvature of the earth. Leading down to the murmuring surf is a beach that stretches a hundred metres in both directions, bounded at each end by a spur of jungle. The sand is an ethereal, luminescent white.”
