2000s: The Costa del Sol is not called the Costa del Crime for nothing
MI5 agent Winnie Monks has never forgotten the death of an operative on her watch. She’s always vowed revenge and so when she hears that the Mafia Don responsible will be in the Costa Del Sol, she organises a team to go and watch him. Then give him that revenge he deserves.
They head to a place beside the Russian’s villa in Malaga and stake out an abandoned property next door. But they are not alone….someone is watching them…
Malaga, on the Costa del Sol is not called the Costa del Crime for nothing here – there is a strong presence here of criminal activity and dubious goings on. The villa at the centre of the surveillance operations is just along the coast in Marbella. Trouble and worry in paradise. The villa is in dire need of repair and that seems typical with the amount of building work going on around the area at the time. There are a few building scandals too which is creating problems for building companies, customers and the government. Organised crime in its many guises seems to roam free along these shores.
The expats who live in the heart of the Costa del Crime and their disillusionment with the Spanish dream is at the heart of the novel. The side to their paradise is changing and not for the best. The influx of Eastern Europeans and criminals also seem to want a piece of the Malaga pie..
