1900s: A famous painting is stolen from Sinclair’s department store, the two amateur detectives Sophie and Lil step inside a world of forgery, secret societies, and into the arms of old enemies.
Set in the age of suffragettes and the emancipation of people from the rules and regulations of Victorian society. This is the London of new values and new chances for women especially so the idea that two young women are playing the part of amateur detectives getting into all kinds of scrapes is a nice twist! There’s plenty of art exhibitions in the capital city but in this case a famous painting of a dragon goes missing. A nearby art school is suspected of being involved. Now this is a unique angle on the art scene in the city!
Theatre was exploding at the time and the invention of motor cars, still relatively new, shows a new and exciting world on many levels.
This very nice and posh Edwardian department store is based on Selfridges
There are plenty of art galleries in London but the one in the novel is of course fictional. Nice to go and look just incase though! The Royal College of Art is just around the corner and is a haven for art lovers. Maybe has a picture of a dragon…
