Why a Booktrail?
2000s: Sometimes the walls we build end up closing us in . . .
2000s: Sometimes the walls we build end up closing us in . . .
A group of explorers arrive in the remote town of Birchlake, Northern California, to investigate the appearance of mysterious stone walls.
A teenage girl has disappeared without a trace.
Soon it becomes clear that the two events may be connected in the most terrifying way. Because sometimes the walls we build end up closing us in . . .
The book is mainly set in Birchlake which sounds lovely but has some very dark parts – infact most of the town is dark. As are the houses and the people living in them… Luckily it’s fictional but said to be some 40 miles from Shasta which is a very real and interesting place. There’s a dam in Shasta – ironically you might want to hide in one after reading this book!
People are disappearing around here. The area is one of woodland and landscape which stretches on for miles and miles. It’s known as ‘Nowheresville’ and a girl living in Birchlake has gone missing. People search but they freak out and bail.
Who is lurking outside in this wilderness? What’s that noise? Who’s there?
Can anyone hear if you scream?
The interesting premise is the existence of walls, lines and marks in the ground such as the Nazca Lines in Peru, the Sajama Lines in Bolivia which are said to be some kind of marking, ‘celestial pathways’.
This is the story about those lines in America – Mystery Hill in New Hampshire, Gungywamp in Connecticut or even the stone chambers in New England.
Stone walls
Scattered communities of 16th and 17th century New England . People who piled up rocks when they were buildings their communities. Back in 1872, the Us department of Agriculture estimated that there were some 240, 000 miles of walls in New England alone… Some walls are high, others are built so low that they are barely a barrier of any kind. There are even said to be submerged walls underneath the Hudson…
