Montalbano gets involved with an investigation of a body cut up into 30 pieces
Inspector Montalbano is almost 60. But he can still solve a complicated murder case.
When a body is found in a field cut into 30 pieces, Montalbano and his detectives must figure out who exactly the victim is and why they were murdered.
Is the murder connected to the biblical references or the mafia? or someone closer to home?
Vigata may be fictional but it is said to be inspired by Porto Empedocle where the author’s childhood home was.
Via Roma – a street through the town where the literary Salvo Montalbano likes to stop at his favourite Caffè Albanese – the real Albanese has changed its name to Bar Vigata. Just down the road, leaning on a lamppost, is a statue of the inspector with a full head of hair and bushy mustache!
As with the other Montalbano novels, the author states – ‘As is obvious, the names of …. streets, hotels etc are entirely fictitious and make no reference to reality’. What a shame. Having said that , the sights, sounds and smells of Sicily really do jump off the page. The gourmand parts are always mouthwatering and the jokes – The man was ignorant as a goat’ – as charming and unique as the landscape and characters.
