2000s: There’s a face at your apartment in Stockholm….
A stranger wearing a mask stands in the shadow of a garden. He’s watching his first victim through the window. He will kill him slowly, make it last – play him a nursery rhyme – make him pay.
There’s only one person the police can turn to – ex-Detective Joona Linna – but he’s serving time in a high-security prison. So they offer him a chance to secure his freedom: help Superintendent Saga Bauer track down the vicious killer known as the Rabbit Hunter, before he strikes again.
Soon another three victims have been murdered and Stockholm is in the grip of terror. Joona Linna must catch a disturbed predator, whose trail of destruction leads back to one horrific night of violence – with consequences more terrifying than anyone could have imagined…
The Rabbit Hunter does follow on from The Stalker in many respects so bear that in mind when starting it. There will be things you might not initially ‘ get’ but it doesn’t really spoil the enjoyment of the book.
Stockholm is under siege – Swedish authorities (the police and Swedish Security Service known as Säpo) are having to deal with the brutal murder of the Swedish Foreign Minister. With such an important tragedy on both a person and democracy itself, the PM visits Joona in prison to ask for his help. (Joona was put in prison for something in a previous read)
So follows a series of brutal events in and around Stockholm. As always, the locations are stunning and everyday but even the local park gets a grim make over in this book. The inside of many plush apartments you may have had envy just looking at in real life – well that stops when you read what goes on behind the curtains here.
Stockholm’s shine is rubbed right off in this novel!
Violence and abuse/torture is the theme of the crimes so beware before you read – it’s not for the squeamish!
