What you need to know before your trail

“And The Green Grass Grew All Around” is a popular children’s song from 1912 where children sing one verse and then the song grows and grows with each verse becoming longer than the one before. The Twelve Days of Christmas is also a so called ‘cumulative song’ in this way.

The Rainforest Grew All Around is an adaptation of this song and it explores the rainforest in all its glory from the first little seed to the story of how the jungle rainforest grows, survives, is home to so many creatures and plants and so much more.

Travel Guide

Step deep inside the Amazon rainforest and see the forest grow as the very first seed that falls to the ground. This is the start of a imaginative and immersive story which shows you the forest through the eyes of the various creatures who live there – there’s  snake, birds, plants, a frog, bugs and many more before we come full circle back to the seed again.

The illustrations are a mixture of colours and textures with many many splashes of brilliance bringing the rainforest and its animals to life. It’s like having David Attenborough or some other fascinating wildlife expert in there with you – take those vines for example, do you know why they climb the trees the way they do?
There are many activity sheets too at the end of the book  – which the author has given permission to be copied from her site.

This just makes the book and its magic more real. How do the animals in the rainforest survive and how do the plants reproduce. This is the circle of life in one of the most fascinating places on earth.

And wait until you get to the end and there’s a chance to make and eat some Rainforest cookies – with ingredients which grow there.
