2000s: The Rose City is stained with blood…
Everyone assumes Louis Saint-Blancat will finally settle down and focus on the politics of Toulouse – his father the major has just been found brutally murdered and as the police investigate, the political opening looks set to go directly to its heir
Louis is much more interested in tracking down his father’s killer and returning to his globe-trotting lifestyle however. The political shenanigans of Toulouse are not of interest to him.
English journalist Catherine Marty finds an unlikely ally in Louis when she starts to investigate. Will the two sleuths discover what is lurking beneath the apparent congeniality of la Ville Rose?
Known as the rose city for the colour of the brick which makes up many of its buildings. Louis notes that buildings here are limited to a maximum of six floors apart from a time in the 1960s when there were different rules for a time. That’s why the city is mainly flat and you can see the hills all around it. There are certain old buildings however like the Jacobins Bell Tower and the Dome de la Grave, the old hospital to show off the city’s rich history.
The political landscape of the city is also rose gold in colour but certainly not golden in any other way. There is political intrigue here and a mayor has been murdered. The Capitole building however does stand proud and at dusk, when the sunlight fades and the colour of the stone changes, it looks positively other worldly..
“To live with a truly magnificent view of Toulouse, one had to be dead. Several gray tombs vied for space and attention among tall dark cypress and cedar trees in the Terre Cabade Cemetery where Pierre Saint-Banca was about to be buried”
