Owen Skye and his two brothers live in an unnamed rural Canadian town in the 1960s
Quiet, big-eared Owen and his smart older brother Andy live in a rural village with their parents and weird Uncle Lorne, a shy bachelor who sleeps on a cot in the basement and takes out his teeth at night. They make up the Skye family and live a nice and very unconventional life.
Owen falls in love with a girl named Sylvia but his attempts at wooing her fall flat. Thank goodness for life at home, where there’s a brother to talk to and plot adventures with. Yet the Skye boys somehow manage to turn every innocent plan into a full-scale ordeal.
And then there’s the deadly bog man…
Alan Cumyn began writing for his own children when they were young, and whilst he lived in a broken-down farmhouse outside of Saint John, New Brunswick in the mid-1960s.
The unnamed town in the book could be anywhere really but it’s thought to be in Ontario or New Brunwick where the author himself lived.
