Clara has never forgotten the moment, twenty years ago, when her son left home following a family argument. When her husband dies, she feels the time is right to try and find him and so she hires a private investigator and finds out that he’s over in the USA and has a teenage daughter, Nathalie.
Clara makes contact and starts sending letters to Nathalie but Nathalie’s mum reads the letter first. But soon Nathalie will make her way to Ireland, to the grandmother she never knew existed and the family secrets she has never known.
Why is Clara now living in Ireland and what was it that made Max move away? Secrets have a way of coming back to the surface many years later.

Living in LA, Nathalie is your typical American teen until something happens which changes her whole world. When she is sent to stay with her Irish family, it’s in the hope that the Irish landscape and the warmth of an Irish welcome will change her for the better.

Clara meanwhile has been living in Ireland, deprived of her son and granddaughter for all these years. As you find out about Clara, her backstory and how she came to live in Ireland, the need to search for her family becomes all the more important.
Nathalie finds letters which detail Clara’s past – old faded, forgotten letters which reveal a past which delves back into the dark past of WW2 and the Nazi concentration camps.

Clara has secrets from her past which have haunted her all her life. Now is the time for her to share these secrets, however painful they might be, if she is ever going to reunite her family and get to know the family she never knew she had.
Events in the past can’t be changed but it’s the past and Clara’s story that is harsh and raw. The letters detailing secrets from the Nazi treatment of Jews is heartbreaking and emotional. This is Clara’s story however and needs to be told.
Secrets from a different time and place, secrets which have divided a family for many years now have the chance for reconciliation. A novel about moving on in every sense of the word.
