2000s: A cross cultural conundrum this one…
Kirsty Wilson lands a room in a luxury Glasgow flat owned by Swedish fellow student Eva Magnusson and well, she can’t quite believe her luck. It’s not your usual student digs and quite the step up from what she was expecting. But delight turns to horror when she finds the beautiful Swedish girl lying dead in their home and their male flatmate accused of her murder. Kirsty refuses to accept that he is guilty and, inspired by family friend Detective Superintendent Lorimer, sets out to clear his name.
Meanwhile, Lorimer calls on trusted psychologist Solly Brightman to help unravel the truth behind the enigmatic Eva’s life and death. But then another body is found, a woman looking remarklbly like Eva.Has Lorimer put the wrong man behind bars?
Glasgow’s finest detective is really out of his comfort zone here. Not only has there been a death in the city but it involves a Swedish national so part of the investigation takes them to Stockholm. From the gritty streets of Glasgow, the murder involves digging into Eva’s life both in Scotland and Sweden.
Lorimer has had some cases to deal with in Glasgow so a foreign national being killed on his patch is a gripping twist for Lorimer and his team.
Lorimer looked out of the window as the plane came into land, marvelling at the water everywhere, tiny clusters of houses dotted on the margins of what appeared to be islets floating down below
“An illusion of warmth in a land in the iron grip of winter”
Stockholm Solly realises is called the Venice of the North and can see why it is as soon as he arrives. “It would be a lovely city to visit properly he says” and indeed it is. The Ostermalm market has to be on the top of your list!
