The devastation of a family and a cathedral….
Adam is a stay-at-home dad who is also working on a history of the bombing and rebuilding of Coventry Cathedral. One day, he receives a call from his daughter’s school to inform him that, for no apparent reason, fifteen-year-old Miriam has collapsed and stopped breathing.
The story of his life and the lives of his family are rewritten and re-told around this shocking central event, around a body that has inexplicably failed. This is a story of devastation and hope and the destruction of a shelter.
The story is centered around the breakdown in one family but the other story is based on the real history of Coventry Cathedral -“an extraordinary place with a story you can’t ignore.”
The bombing of Coventry Cathedral and the building of the new Cathedral, show just how easy it is to lose something and to not realise how much you love something until it’s gone. The mother in the book talking of her daughter’s illness ‘You can’t go round not loving things because they’ll die’- and that despite life being so precarious, you have to cherish the moments and the memories of what you have.
