2007: A three year old girl goes missing from her family’s holiday appointment
Dutch investigative journalist Peter Scharrenberg found two witnesses who told quite a different story than Gerry McCann did about his presence in the tapasbar on the evening of May 3rd 2007. In fact they said that he was gone for 30 minutes. Nobody knows what he did during that crucial period. Except for an Irish family, who believe they saw him downtown carrying a little blond girl. Read all about this and about the statements of the tapas-9, the forensic results, the lies, the strange behaviour of the parents, the Madeleine fund, the false timeline and the Portugese and British police investigation. Read also about a frustrated catholic priest, a retired businessman, a dishonest key witness, an impossible burglary and the mysterious pool picture. Make up your own mind about what happened to Madeleine on that dramatic evening in May 2007.
A small sleepy town in the Algarve popular with tourists.
Madeleine McCann , aged 3 at the time, disappeared on the evening of 3 May 2007 from her bed in a holiday apartment. She has still not been found.
She had been left with her siblings – two year old twins – asleep in their ground-floor apartment whilst the parents joined their friends, also parents with kids in the neighbouring apartments. They told police later that they checked on their children every 30 minutes. When Kate went at 10pm, she noticed Madeline had gone.
The restaurant was on the holiday complex some 55 metres away but it was not an enclosed site and members of the public could access the apartments easily. The police were called and the investigation began. The parents and the investigation have both been criticized.
No trace of Madeline was ever found.
