What you need to know before your trail

Anna has everything worked out – a successful company, all the comforts she needs and no ties. But when she stumbles across the body of a young girl on a deserted beach in Lithuania, everything changes.

Anna is compelled to uncover the story behind the tragedy. Everything points towards sex trafficking, but that’s not all…

When Will disappears without a trace, Anna is pulled further into the murky world of organised crime. Time is running out for them all, and there’s a killer out there who will stop at nothing.

BookTrail Travel to Lithuania

Travel with Author Susanna Beard  in #Authorsonlocation

Anna often takes work trips to Lithuania as this is where her clothing line factory is located. She has to stay longer than expected when the infamous Icelandic Ash cloud grounds flights across the world. This is when she finds the body of a girl on the beach and becomes involved in the case.

Vilinius

Vilnius is Lithuania’s capital. This is where much of the case and investigation takes place although the locations are vague and often fictional yet the city does shine through in some ways.

It’s a city of contrasts both in real life and in the book –  One one side there’s the cobblestoned streets and the neoclassical Vilnius Cathedral to Gothic St. Anne’s Church. Then there’s the 16th-century Gate of Dawn, which once guarded an entrance to the original city.

Klaipėda

A port city in Lithuania, where the Baltic Sea meets the Danė River. This is where the novel opens and is the closest port town to where the body of the girl is found on the K Spit.

The town itself is a lovely old town with German-style, 18th-century wood-framed buildings. Theater Square, the city’s main gathering spot, is home to the neoclassical Drama Theater.

The Kuronian Spit

The Curonian or Kuronian Spit is 98 km long and it’s a thin, curved sand-dune spit that separates the Curonian Lagoon from the Baltic Sea coast. Part of it is located in Russia and some in Lithuania and it’s shared by the two countries as well as being a UNESCO World Heritage Site
