2000s: A woman is offered the seemingly perfect job in a gothic Scottish country house
When Rowan stumbles across the advert, it seems like too good an opportunity to miss: a live-in nanny position, with a staggeringly generous salary. And when she arrives at Heatherbrae House, she is smitten by the luxurious ‘smart’ home fitted out with all modern conveniences, by the beautiful Scottish Highlands, and by this picture-perfect family.
What she doesn’t know is that she’s stepping into a nightmare – one that will end with a child dead and her in a cell awaiting trial for murder.
She knows she’s made mistakes. But she’s not guilty – at least not of murder. Which means someone else is…
Heatherbrae
Ah the setting!! An isolated Highland home not far from Carrbridge close to Aviemore in Scotland. It’s gothic, scary, creepy and very unique as it is a smart home. Much more advanced than Alexa, one app controls the whole house and more. This is perhaps even more scary than the gothic parts. Imagine Alexa controlling everything that goes on. EVERYTHING.
Heatherbrae is a rambling, gothic style Victorian mansion – well at least if is from the front. If you approached from the back, it looks rather different . From this angle, it’s a house of glass, a stylish open plan and modern house. Woodland surround the estate and there is a stream running through the landscape. This is no bubbling brook however – rather a dangerous and chilling source of…something.
There is a poison garden in the grounds and this is filled with all manner of deadly plants. Right in the middle, there is a morbid statue just watching over everything and everyone who dares enter this garden and this house.
