Restoring a Spanish villa brings Shelly back to the place she and her husband once loved, fulfilling the promise he made that they would return. But as plans to transform the villa into a romantic wedding venue take shape, Shelly discovers her children may need the move more than she does.

The words rundown Hacienda and Spain make you feel the sun on your face and the aroma of fresh oranges fill your nostrils. Ronda is Rondilla and as you wander the streets in search of Casa Maria, you see the streets and ramshackle buildings heated by the midday sun, smell the aroma of the fresh flowers and shrubs in the fields, and appreciate the stunning views
The best place to find a house or to return to one which has important meaning to your family, and to restore, start a afresh and nature your family.

I’ve selected this for #IrishWritersWed even though it’s set in Spain as Emma Hannigan is a good Irish Writer on the radar here! This is a light summery read and it’s got a woman going over to Spain and renovating a house for a new start. Something that sounds very appealing in many ways!
Shelly moves to Spain at a time when she’s finding it hard to manage and so this could be the fresh start they all hope for. It’s not a quick fix either as the novel takes place over several months and so events feel real and not rushed into some Spanish idyll.
The story is a lovely one about family and emotions but the setting does help to give the characters a fresh perspective on things and the exploring of the Spanish landscape is not something I’m going to moan about. You can tell the author’s familiar with the area – just lovely.
The family issues in the novel are sensitively covered and felt like a very realistic portrayal of the range of emotions family members in these situations would feel. An emotional summer read.
