What you need to know before your trail

When Katherine of Aragon is brought to the Tudor court as a young bride, the oldest princess, Margaret, takes her measure. With one look, each knows the other for a rival, an ally, a pawn, destined – with Margaret’s younger sister Mary – to a sisterhood unique in all the world. The three sisters will become the queens of England, Scotland and France.

United by family loyalties and affections, the three queens find themselves set against each other. As they experience betrayals, dangers, loss and passion, the three sisters find that the only constant in their perilous lives is their special bond, more powerful than any man, even a king.

Travel Guide

BookTrail Travel to London

England and Scottish Palaces

Some of the places and palaces in the book sadly no longer exist. However there are many which do and the main ones to feature in the story of these three sisters which you can visit, are the following:

Scotland

Linlithgow Palace

Margaret spent much of her time here and it was the location of the birth of her son, later James V.

Edinburgh Castle

The sceptre, part of the Crown Jewels, although subsequently modified in the reign of James V, is probably that which Margaret held at her coronation.

Holyrood House

The Queen’s official residence in Edinburgh and the home of Scottish royal history. Margaret had little time to get to know her new husband before they were married in the chapel at Holyroodhouse

Stirling Castle

12th-century castle and former Renaissance royals palace, with great hall and regimental museum.

England

The story and the Tudor Court is located in London at the start of the novel and then travels to Scotland as Margaret prepares to become the Queen of Scotland. She was Queen from 1503 until 1513 by marriage to James IV of Scotland and then, she became regent for their son James V of Scotland. She was born at Westminster Palace where the novel starts.
