What you need to know before your trail

It is DI Andy Horton’s second day back in Portsmouth CID after being suspended for eight months. Whilst out running in the early morning he trips over the battered, naked body of a man. PC Evans has been stabbed the night before, the DCI is up before a promotion board and Sergeant Cantelli is having problems with his fifteen year old daughter. But, Horton’s mind is on other things not least of which is trying to prove his innocence after being accused of rape. Beset by personal problems and aided by Cantelli, Horton sets out to find a killer who will stop at nothing to cover his tracks. As he gets closer to the truth, and his personal investigations start to uncover dark secrets that someone would rather not have exposed, he risks not only his career but also his life.

Travel Guide

Portsmouth’s Historic Dockyard

Set against the visually strong, unique, vibrant, diverse and atmospheric backdrop of the sea in the Solent area of Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight on the South Coast of England.  Horton’s investigations take him across the Solent and into the harbours of Langstone and Chichester and its surrounding coastal towns.

Southsea Marina

This is where the main character lives.  On the threshold of the Solent -it’s the most relaxed atmosphere along the Portsmouth coast apparently. Maybe not for Horton, but it’s his escape from his gruesome cases.

It is well known in real life for being a hideaway from the busy cruising grounds of the Solent  in general

Head round Eastney Peninsula and within 15 minutes you are in the Solent, ready for day trips to the Isle of Wight or further afield.

Langstone Harbour offers more a more sheltered retreat.
