Tokyo should be on the list of any food lover. A great city to visit at the best of times – but at mealtimes even more so as the choice and tastes on offer is just out of this world!
This is a bible of great Tokyo recipes with everything from miso soup sushi, soba noodles, bentos, sushi and fried rice. Asian food might not be well known for its desserts and sweet treats but just look at what this book has in store for you! Japanese tapas, desserts, cakes and sweets.
For newcomers to this cuisine, there are plenty of features on the key basic cooking techniques and key ingredients, with step-by-step shots for making rice, dashi, miso and sushi. The book also includes beautiful imagery of food markets in Tokyo, Tokyo street scenes, Japanese kitchen interiors, and Japanese food makers and producers.
Rice is an essential food for the Japanese and is not a side dish as it is in the West but is as important as the rest of the meal
Dashi – the essential base stock of Japanese culture which is used to make miso soup
The book came from the hand written books the author took from a recipe book her mother started when she was born. Growing up in Tokyo, she had parents who were passionate about food. She trawled the restaurants of the city thanks to her father and her mother made her a bento book every day.
To taste and to learn just some of the Tokyo delights from the posh restaurants to the yakitori stands and soba noodle bars in the Asakusa district, there some very nice and authentic Tokyo food to try which the author describes as a journey of the true flavours of Tokyo and Japan
