He spends his days digging swimming pools by hand and his nights as the bouncer in the local strip club in the Florida Keys.

He doesn’t want to be found.

But someone has sent a private detective to seek him out. Then Reacher finds the guy beaten to death with his fingertips sliced off. It’s time to head north and work out who is trying to find him and why.

Travel Guide

Key West

Key West at eleven in the evening is about as lively as it gets. Some people are halfway through their night, others are just starting out. Duval is the  main street, running the length of the island east to west, bathed in light and noise. Reacher wasn’t worried about the guys waiting for him  on Duval. Too crowded.

North of Duval is quieter and this is the area where he digs swimming pools This might be a small town but it’s still big enough for a couple of guys to lose themselves.
He later ends up leaving Key West in a car going so fast it’s like he’s on a fighter plane and heads out to Key Largo, before taking the plane to Atlanta and then heading up to New York

New York

“Low Lazy circles over Manhattan in the bright morning sun. Like  a million movies, without the soundtrack. the plane rocking and tilting. The Tall buildings sliding by under them, tinted gold by the sun. The Twin Towers, The Empire State Building. The Chrysler, his favourite, Citicorp”.

New York is the city of business deals and investigations and where he goes to meet Chester Stone who works in the World Trade Center.
