The town of Haddley is fictional but there is a real life village called Hadley in Shropshire. The small town in the novel however, must have a very large pond however for the number of red herrings that are swimming around.
The Haddley in the novel is a suburb of London some twenty minutes outside of London via Marnham station which is also fictional. There are various descriptions of it which remind you of the leafy banks of Richmond.
