Timeless- Let’s go on a journey and explore Peru as several children from various towns and backgrounds travel to the Inti Raymi festival
Inti Raymi is a festival in the Inca tradition which is held every year on June 24 in Cusco to honour the Sun God. There are many children all over Peru very excited to be going this year and are going to get there any way they can. One boy is coming by bus which will be one of the bumpiest rides through the Andes mountains he has ever taken. There’s another coming by train and another by donkey.
They are all excited to take part in Inti Raymi and to find out more about other Peruvian festivals.
A real journey into Peru’s history, culture and the ancient city of Machu Picchu
What a joy – so many different forms of transport as so many children want to make the journey to see the magical Inca festival of Inti Raymi.
José is coming by bus, all the way from Lima.
On a boat in Lake Titicaca, Louisa is making her way on a boat. Fidel and Tia are coming all the way from Puno in a big old truck whilst Consuela is travelling in more style on a train from Arequippa’s.
Perhaps the slowest journey comes in the form of Riccardo, making his way on his mule from Manchu Picchu. However they are coming however, they are all excited to be taking part!
What do you know about the ancient Inca culture and the Inti Raymi festival? The language may be Spanish but these people up in the highest mountain villages speak the Inca language ‘Quechus’
This book is a true celebration of Peru culture and celebrations – Virgen de la Candelaria, El Señor de los Temblores and All Saints’ Day are other festivals explained in the book alongside fascinating facts on Machu Picchu and the Peruvian people.
Susan:
I’ve worked with the Spanish language for years and have studied Peru and other countries as part of my job but this is honestly one of the best books I have come across to just show you the delight, the colour and the essence of the Peruvian culture. I often read children’s books like this as they tell you the sheer delight of these events through the eyes of children themselves to give you the truest flavour you’re ever going to get.
It’s just a fun story and I loved it. Made me want to go there for real although perhaps not on a mule.
