2000s: A headless torso washes up on a North East beach
Early on a Sunday morning in the North East seaside resort of Whitley Bay, a headless female torso washes up on the beach. Two days later, the body’s missing head appears a mile down the coast – and with that, DI Jack Brady is plunged into one of the most harrowing cases of his career.
Danielle’s books are all set in and around Whitley Bay and they don’t show the view that the tourist boards would have you see and hear. This is a gritty seaside town, once much -loved and now sadly faded and neglected. In real life, this is not the case – there’s been a lot of regeneration around the town and there are now fine wine bars, hotels and a nice boardwalk.
The bars and clubs in the story are fictional for obvious reasons but the promenade is a place to visit where the night clubs and hotels are in real life but are better than the fictional variety!. Further along the coast, there’s the Victorian villas on the corner between Whitley Bay and Tynemouth where Brady lives. Not bad for a fictional character’s home and the views are amazing!
