How would you feel if you moved back to the country or even the town or area you know you’re from but have never been before. Through the eyes of Victoria who is only small, this is a strange and unsettling experience but also quite a fun one. She can see how everything you take for granted from the food to the clothes and the way you do things are different and strange.

Imagine the excitement of going to see where your mum is from and where she was born! Victoria is excited to be seeing her Brazilian family for the first time. Her Great grandmother is called Maria and she’s from the Tupi Guarani tribe in southern Brazil. She has such an interesting family and some of the most evocative parts of the book are when they all sit down and eat the local food as a family. Via various photos, Victoria shows and takes you on her journey sharing her secrets with you and her reactions to what she sees and hears. She has Down’s Syndrome but her story is not about that, but about her as a person who finds out more about her past and who she is, rather than what she has.
Seeing a whole new world and culture through a child’s eyes shows you so much more than a normal guide book ever could. Victoria speaks Portuguese, dances the Capoeira, and explores as only a child can.
