2000s: A suicide, filmed and posted on line is the next case for Stevens and Windermere
Kirk Stevens and Carla Windermere are partners on a joint FBI and BCI task force. Their next case comes from someone very close to home. A bit too close really – Stevens’ daughter.
She explains that a classmate has apparently committed suicide. And even worse if that’s possible, in this digital age, the whole thing has been put on line in a suicide forum. People comment on it, talk about it and encourage others to do the same
This case goes to darker places that Stevens and Windermere had ever hoped they would see.
The author mentions the background to this book in his note at the back of the book and it is worth mentioning here. Since the book deals with suicide and depression, some may find it hard to read, but the author knows how you feel:
“The Watcher in the Wall is inspired very loosely by real-life incident, but it’s also a fairly personal book for me. I’ve dealt with depression and suicidal thoughts since I was a teenager, and it’s only now, two decades later that I’ve started taking real steps to deal with it. In some ways, this book is a response to the dark stuff……Please don’t suffer in silence. There’s no shame in speaking up and I promise, you’re not alone.”
